Fossil fuel subsidies

Methodological background:

The total amount of fossil fuel subsidies is divided by the total GDP.

Remarks:

Fossil fuel subsidies can be regulated on both the national and subnational level. Robust figures for subnational jurisdictions would include the total subnational fossil fuel subsidies as well as the share of federal fossil fuel subsidies that has gone to this subnational jurisdiction. Given that no such assessment has been made, only national (Canada) figures can be shown for this indicator. The fossil fuel subsidy figures are expressed in nominal dollars.

GDP figures are expressed in chained (2012) dollars. Canada GDP figures are the sum of the values of all provinces and territories.
