Sense of belonging to local community

Methodological background:

Proportion of population who reported their sense of belonging to their local community as being very strong or somewhat strong.

Remarks:

Sense of belonging to the local community was used as a proxy for satisfaction with the situation in ones local community. The data is based on the question “How would you describe your sense of belonging to your local community?”, where possible response categories included “Very strong,” “Somewhat strong,” “Somewhat weak,” “Very weak” and “No opinion.” Sense of belonging to the local community figures are collected annually as part of the Canadian Community Health Survey, which includes additional information for sex and age for both the national and provincial levels.

Quarterly life satisfaction figures are collected as part of the Canadian Social Survey. This includes additional information for sex, age and indigenous identity, however the figures for the latter two are only available for the national level, and the data in principle only available since 2021. Therefore, the data from the Canadian Community Health Survey were chosen for this indicator.
